Our Story
Our story begins in 1997, (wow, that sounds like a long time ago) when a city girl and a mountain man from Utah fell in love. Our married life began in FL, but Greg longed for the mountains and was thoroughly convinced he was allergic to the beach! We strongly believed God was leading our family of five to the mountains of North Georgia.
Once we arrived, we knew we were “home.” However, we didn’t feel quite settled. We felt that God was calling us one step further…we were supposed to start a farm. Remember, I was a city girl from South Florida, and the only animals I had any experience with were one dog, some cats and fish!
After years of searching, God led Greg to the perfect piece of property and the vision began for Phelps’ Farm. To this day, I don’t understand how my husband looked at a forest and envisioned what we now have today! Of course there are parts of the farm that neither of us envisioned, but we absolutely love and appreciate. I don’t think either of us realized how much work and chaos we would face. On the contrary, we also didn’t realize how much adventure and fun we would enjoy! So, here we are… we have added several new members to our family the past few years: several cows, goats, chickens, 5 dogs, 2 cats, and a toddler!!!! We wouldn’t trade a thing! However, don’t judge if you try to reach us after 9, and we are already sound asleep!
James 1:17: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with no shadow of turning.”
Grassfed beef
As our family began to take a closer look at health and nutrition, we discovered the importance and value of grass fed beef. We determined it was worth the extra money at the grocery store to have the best for our family. We are now thrilled to be able to offer grass fed beef from our farm. We love all of the animals on our farm, and it is very important to us that while our cows are with us, they are treated with wonderful care, never receive any hormones, steroids or antibiotics, and are never finished off on a feed lot. We understand that you may have a lot of questions for us concerning the cost and process of getting our beef from our home to yours. Please check out our FAQ page, and don’t hesitate to email us any questions. We are here to guide you through the process.
Highland
It is very hard to look into the eyes of a Highland cow and not fall in love. As we were researching cattle for our farm, we came across these hairy beauties. We immediately knew that this was one animal that we wanted to be part of our farm family. Their sweet personalities and unique look, immediately captured our hearts. If you are interested in adding a new family member to your farm, please check out our page for any upcoming arrivals and to meet our current cows.
Newfoundland
Our family has always had a special love for large breed dogs. We were drawn to the Newfoundland for their loyal heart and gentle spirit. These dogs don’t realize their size and are convinced they’re lap dogs. They are easy to train and eager to please. Check out our page for upcoming litters and how you can bring a new puppy to our home.
